  • Where could I go?
    Where you want, no country is forbidden as long as you find an exchange partner.
  • When could I exchange? How long should the exchanges last?
    Whenever you want, in every part of the year and for the length that you like, even for months. The only important point is that you and your partner agree on this.
  • Will my house be good enough for other members?
    Two houses always have different economic value but it's not that but what is coming from the experience of the exchange the real value. Our suggestion is to be honest with your exchange partner and you will find someone that likes your house, even if it small or old.
  • What should I pay in regards to bills (water, gas, power)?
    Usually the owner pays the bills in his house. For very long exchanges different agreements could be arranged.
  • What things in the house could I use?
    You can use everything you have been authorised to. That's why it's important clear this point before starting the exchange.
  • What happens if at the end I can't take part in the exchange?
    Legally nothing happens if not differently decided by you. Although remember that it won't be a nice surprise for your exchange partners get to discover two days before the departure that their vacation is gone. Be honest, if you have problems of any kind, talk to your partners in order to keep a good relationship.
  • Am I sure to find an exchange?
    This depends on your flexibility in accepting the offers you received from other members.
  • The insurance on my house will cover my guests?
    Most of the insurance companies recognise the importance of not leaving your house unoccupied and therefore are ok with the fact that your exchange partners are staying there while you are away. Damages produced by fire, theft or natural catastrophy are generally covered even if your exchange partners are living there.
  • How could I be sure that my house is in safe hands?
    Bad behaviour is immediately reported to us and the exclusion of the member from the circuit is immediate too. Therefore, members in the circuit are always certified by other members. We never received claims about exchange partners, except for single and not serious cases.
  • Does a contract exist that rules the exchange?
    In home exchange a legal contract does not exist. Home exchange is based on trust and on getting to know each other before the departure. Remember that while they are staying in your house you are staying in their house and therefore, they would probably feel the same, don't worry.
  • Who are the members of Livingaway.com?
    The members of Livingaway.com are normal families, retired couples that love to travel the world. Nice people, educated, interested in opening their mind to this special travel experience that is home exchange. The members come from all over the world.
  • Will my house be visible on all websites of Livingaway.com?
    Your house will automatically be visible on all websites of our circuit, that means, in every country. Your information will automatically be translated and easily understandable to people speaking other languages.
  • I entered email and password but the system said I have to activate my account. How do I do that?
    When you completed your subscription, you should have received a 'Welcome' e-mail message containing a link, you need to click on that link in order to activate your account.
    This procedure is used to ensure that the address you gave us is correct. If you did not receive the message, you probably misspelled your email address or you have troubles with your mailbox, therefore, write to us.
  • What do you mean by exchange offer? What's the difference from the offer and the house?
    An exchange offer includes needs and requests of the member. In an exchange offer you will find the desired destinations, the period of exchange, the number of people that will take part in the exchange and other information. The house, otherwise, is the collection of information about the house, number of beds, type of area, type of house, pictures, etc. You can have more houses in our system as long as more exchange offers.
  • I joined successfully and entered all information about my house, but I cannot find it on the website. Why?
    Perhaps you did not activate your account yet by clicking on the link in the 'Welcome' email message.
  • How can I write to a member once I have seen his house and his offers?
    When you look at a house listing, you can see a tab "Contact", by clicking on that you will have the opportunity to write an email message to the owner. He will get the message directly in his mailbox as well as in the messages section in the member's area.
  • How do I know that there are people interested in exchanging with me?
    You will receive messages directly in your mail box and if you have any troubles with the e-mail you will be able to see messages in the Messages Section in the Member's Area.
  • How can I find a house with the number given by the member?
    Enter the house number in the left bottom box in the home page that says "Fast Search" and you will be redirect to the listing corresponding to that house.
  • My house has been visited a lot of times, but I haven't received any messages. Is it because I didn't upload pictures?
    Pictures are very very important. They attract other members and encourages the member to read your details. The first exclusion of houses from a member is usually done by eliminating the houses without pictures. If you have no pictures included the your chances of finding an exchange are much lower.
  • I am not able to upload pictures. What should I do?
    Pictures must be in Jpeg format (.jpg). If the pictures you are trying to upload are too big in size (more than 500 Kb) you may have difficulties caused by phone line or browser support. Send the pictures to us by email and we will upload them for you.
  • I didn't upload pictures at the time of the subscription. How do I upload them now?
    From the Member's Area, section 'Your houses' you will be able to upload pictures, edit and remove them.
  • How do I choose the main picture, the one that is shown beside the details in the browsing section?
    During the process of uploading pictures, the last picture you uploaded becomes the main picture. Therefore we suggest you upload your best picture last. If you have already uploaded your best picture,remove it,upload it again and it will go in as the last. .
  • I don't remember the number of my house. Where can I find it?
    In the Member's area, beside your houses, you can see the number of each house.
  • How can I edit information about my house and my offers?
    Once more, from the Member's area, you will have total control over the information you provided and you will be able to add, edit and delete some or all of them at that time.
  • How can I cancel my subscription and remove all my data?
    Send us an e-mail from the email address you used to join our community and write down your intention to be cancelled. We will remove your data immediately.
